Plant of the Month: February 2024

Plant of the Month: February 2024

As February walks out the door like it's got a hot date with March, we're left swooning over all the love showered on our green amigos this month! Every month, one plant rises to the top as the clear favourite, and we’re spilling the dirt on this month’s most eligible bachelor.

We’d request a drum roll for the grand reveal, but this low-maintenance amigo doesn’t want a fuss. Let us introduce February’s top plant of the month, the Pothos Jade Pearl!

The Pothos Jade Pearl, a cultivar of the Epipremnum aureum, originates from Southeast Asia. It shares lineage with other popular Pothos varieties like the Pothos Gold and Marble Queen. The Jade Pothos is loved for its green and creamy white variegated leaves, and of course, its easy-going lifestyle!

Why We Love It:

Plant parents adore the Pothos Jade Pearl for its low-maintenance nature and ability to thrive in various light conditions. Whether placed in a bright, indirect spot or a dim corner, this resilient plant adds a vibrant touch to any room. Plus, its trailing vines can be trained to climb or left to cascade gracefully, making it a great plant for window sills, book shelves, and hanging pots!

Care Tips for Success:

Light: Thrives in medium to bright indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions. No wonder it’s a winter favourite!

Watering: Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Pothos prefers slightly moist soil but can tolerate occasional drought. Forgetful plant parents please stand up...

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity levels. Regular misting or placing a humidifier nearby can help maintain optimal moisture levels.

While the Jade Pearl steals the spotlight, it's not the only star shining bright this month! Here are a few other amigos that caught the eyes of plant parents in February...

Honourable Mentions:

ZZ Plant: With its glossy, dark green leaves and tolerance for neglect, the ZZ Plant is a must-have for busy plant parents. Perfect for beginners and seasoned growers alike, this hardy plant adds a touch of zen to any space.

Satin Pothos: A cousin to this month’s star, the Satin Pothos is loved for all the same reasons. The Satin Pothos features more velvety leaves, and has the classic trailing vines that the Pothos variety is known and loved for.

Thai Constellation: This rare and exotic variety of Monstera features marbled leaves with splashes of cream and green, reminiscent of a starry night sky. A stunning statement piece for any plant collection, the Thai Constellation is sure to turn heads and spark conversations!

And there you have it, folks, another chapter in the plant-filled saga of 2024 draws to a close! As we inch closer to the spring season, we can't wait to see the blossoming of new plant stars on the horizon.

Stay tuned for our March edition as we unveil the next green amigos destined to steal the spotlight!
