How to care for a Shingle Plant

This plant is native to the tropical rainforests of Australia and New Guinea.

The Shingle Plant isn't a particularly strong air purifier.

These plants are not pet-friendly!

The Shingle Plant loves to dry out a bit between watering. Check it once a week in the fall/winter, and twice a week in spring/summer. They require well draining soil to avoid root rot. A minimum of 60% humidity is a must for these guys to live their best life!

These plants do best in medium to bright indirect light. Try to avoid direct sun, as this can scorch the leaves.

A well balanced fertilizer once a month in spring and summer will do the trick.

You can check your Shingle Plant once a year at the beginning of spring. If the roots look very crowded, you can repot it into a pot 2 inches wider.

You can prune your Shingle Plant if it starts to outgrow the wooden board. If these plants don't have something to climb, they may become leggy and require a pruning as well.

These plants are not very susceptible to any particular diseases, but they definitely do not like to be overwatered! Yellow leaves is a sign of overwatering and possible root rot.
