Alocasia Frydek Variegata

Hailing from the warm, humid rainforest understory of Luzon in the Philippines, Alocasia micholitziana evolved as a tropical gemstone, prized for its deep emerald, arrow-shaped leaves with plush, velvety textures and stark white veining. The highly coveted 'Frydek Variegata' mutation takes this beauty to an extraordinary level, marbling those plush velvet blades with brilliant splashes of pure white, cream, and mint sectorial variegation. Because white leaf sections lack chlorophyll, this stunning jewel demands attentive care to balance light and moisture, making it a true centerpiece trophy for rare plant collectors.

  • Toxic to pets and children

About Alocasia Frydek Variegata

Origin

Hails straight from the warm, high-humidity tropical understories of the Philippines, tucked away under the shady jungle canopy.

Air Purifying

Yes! This show-stopping amigo works quietly in the background, filtering common household VOCs and toxins out of the air while boosting oxygen levels.

Toxicity

Keep curious paws away! This stunning diva contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, making it toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested.

Caring for Alocasia Frydek Variegata

Watering

Water when the top 25–50% of the soil has dried out. This amigo loves steady moisture like a wrung-out sponge, but hates swampy feet or staying dry too long. Serve filtered or distilled water to keep those leaves happy!

Light and Placement

Bright, indirect light is its absolute happy zone! Keep this variegated beauty out of direct afternoon sun rays to prevent its delicate white leaf patches from scorching or burning.

Nutrition

Treat it to a snack every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer using a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half-strength. Pause the meals during fall and winter when growth naturally slows down.

Repotting

Level up its home every 1–2 years in spring when roots crowd the pot! Use a chunky, ultra-airy aroid mix with plenty of bark and perlite, moving up just 1–2 inches in pot size with good drainage.

Pruning and Flowering

Prune off old, yellowing outer leaves at the base using clean, sharp shears to direct energy into fresh growth. It rarely blooms indoors, but let's be honest—that variegated velvet foliage is the main event anyway!

Illness

Keep a sharp eye out for spider mites, thrips, or root rot from overwatering. Low humidity can cause crispy edges on the white variegation, so keep the air extra moist and cozy!
