Epipremnum Aureum 'Snow Queen'

Renowned for its breathtakingly bright, frosted foliage, Epipremnum aureum 'Snow Queen' is an exceptionally variegated cultivar of the classic pothos family. Unlike its relative the Marble Queen, 'Snow Queen' boasts an extraordinarily high ratio of brilliant creamy-white color over deep emerald green. Each heart-shaped leaf looks as if it has been dusted in fresh snow, painted with delicate green specks and marbling. Extremely adaptable, air-purifying, and easy to care for, its cascading vines add a clean, high-contrast pop of brightness whether trailing from a hanging planter, spilling off a shelf, or trained to climb a moss pole.

  • Toxic to pets and children
  • Repot once every 2 years
  • Fertilize once a month
  • Average water
  • Bright, indirect light

About Epipremnum Aureum 'Snow Queen'

Origin

A heavily variegated cultivar of Epipremnum aureum, originating naturally from tropical island habitats in the South Pacific. It grows naturally as a trailing or climbing vine clinging to tree bark.

Air Purifying

Actively removes common volatile organic compounds like formaldehyde, xylene, and benzene from indoor air spaces. Its foliage traps airborne dust while steadily transpiring clean water vapor.

Toxicity

Toxic to cats and dogs due to sharp, insoluble calcium oxalate crystals concentrated in its tissue. Chewing on leaves causes severe oral pain, lip swelling, drooling, and swallowing difficulty.

Caring for Epipremnum Aureum 'Snow Queen'

Watering

Water thoroughly when the top 50% of the potting medium feels dry to the touch. Because it contains less chlorophyll, it processes water slower than solid green pothos and easily rots if overwatered.

Light and Placement

Demands bright, indirect sunlight to maintain its snowy white variegation and prevent leaves from reverting to green. Keep out of harsh, direct afternoon sun, which will crisp and brown the pristine white patches.

Nutrition

Feed once every 4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted to half-strength. Do not fertilize during fall and winter when growth naturally pauses.

Repotting

Repot every 1 to 2 years in spring using a chunky, free-draining mix (peat/coir, perlite, and coarse bark). Select a pot with adequate drainage to keep air circulating around its root system.

Pruning and Flowering

Prune back leggy vines to keep the canopy dense and encourage fresh variegated shoots from the crown. Trailing stems can be trained up a totem or pole to develop larger, mature leaves.

Epipremnum Aureum 'Snow Queen' SOS

Illness

Brown, crispy patches on the white leaf sections indicate sunburn, low humidity, or chemical burn from hard tap water. Mealybugs and scale insects can occasionally nest near the leaf nodes.
