Origin

Native to the tropical regions of South and Southeast Asia, specifically India, Nepal, and Malaysia, though this variegated stunner was cultivated for plant lovers!

Caring for Ficus Elastica Tineke

Watering

Water when the soil has dried out 50–75%. These variegated amigos prefer to dry out significantly between drinks—their thick leaves hold onto moisture, so under-watering is always safer than overwatering!

Light and Placement

Thrives best in bright, indirect light! Because of its gorgeous cream, pastel green, and pink variegation, this amigo needs plenty of bright, filtered sunshine to maintain those camouflage patterns without reverting or turning brown. Keep it out of harsh, direct afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorching.

Nutrition

Treat them to a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half-strength once a month during the spring and summer growing season. Skip the snacks during fall and winter.

Repotting

Repot every 1–2 years in spring when you notice roots peeking through the top of the soil or drainage holes or growth slowing down. Pick a sturdy pot 1–2 inches larger with a well-draining, chunky potting mix.

Pruning and Flowering

Indoor blooms are super rare! Prune in early spring to control height or notch the main stem to encourage branching and a fuller canopy. Always wear gloves to guard against the sticky white sap!
