Origin

Native to the warm, humid subtropical and tropical regions of Eastern Asia and Australia, including southern China, Japan, Vietnam, and Queensland.

Caring for Hoya Carnosa

Watering

Water when the soil has dried out 75–100% (almost completely dry). Thanks to its thick, succulent-like waxy leaves, this drought-tolerant amigo stores plenty of water and strictly despises soggy roots—under-watering is always safer than overwatering!

Light and Placement

Thrives best in bright, indirect light with a few hours of soft morning sun! High light is the secret key to getting this amigo to produce its famous, sweet-smelling flower clusters. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorching.

Nutrition

Treat them to a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer (or a orchid/bloom-boosting fertilizer) diluted to half-strength once a month during spring and summer. Skip the snacks during fall and winter.

Repotting

These trailing amigos love a tight squeeze! They actually bloom best when root-bound, so repot only every 3–4 years in spring using a chunky, fast-draining orchid bark and perlite potting mix in a pot just 1 inch larger.

Pruning and Flowering

Produces breathtaking, star-shaped clusters of sweet-scented "porcelain" flowers in spring and summer! Important tip: never cut off the flower spurs (peduncles) after blooms fade, as new flowers will bloom from those exact same spurs year after year! Prune trailing vines only to manage length or propagate in water.
