Consolea rubescens is a fascinating cactus known for its flattened, paddle-like stems that twist and sprawl into unusual shapes, earning it the memorable nickname “Roadkill Cactus.” Native to the Caribbean, this distinctive species develops a sculptural, almost windswept appearance that makes it a conversation piece in any succulent collection. Its blue-green pads may develop reddish tones in bright light, adding even more character to its rugged form. Place it in full sun or the brightest location available, where it can maintain compact growth and vibrant coloration. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, as this drought-tolerant cactus is highly sensitive to excess moisture. It thrives in warm temperatures between 18–32°C and should be protected from frost and prolonged cold exposure. How to care for Bob

Bright, direct light

Cacti thrive in bright light, and can tolerate indirect light. Place in a spot with ample sunlight. If you notice browning on the side where the light is, pull your cactus back a few feet.

Very little water

Cacti prefer infrequent watering, be sure to allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
