Florence is a glamorous, dramatic socialite who absolutely commands the center of attention. She is famous for her massive, pom-pom-like "mophead" hairstyles and her uncanny ability to change her entire color palette on a whim. Send her to a neighborhood with acidic soil, and she will show up in cool, moody blues and purples; move her to alkaline ground, and she will instantly shift into blush pinks and vibrant magentas. Florence loves a refreshing morning sun bath but gets quite faint and droopy if exposed to harsh afternoon heat or if she is denied her frequent, heavy pours of water. Give her a sheltered, partly shaded spot in the garden with rich, moist soil, and she will spend all summer flaunting her lavish blooms like true royalty.

How to care for Florence

The Mophead Hydrangea is best kept in moist but well aerated soil that allows for plenty of water drainage. The best spot for it would be one where the plant is somewhat sheltered from wind gusts if there are any, and gets plenty of sunlight. A few hours a day is enough but the more the better. Prune the heads of this plant in spring and you'll get even bigger, better looking flowers. Hydrangeas are definitely among the thirstier plants out there so be sure to water frequently (at least twice a week in spring and summer). A bit of fertilizer twice a month in spring and summer and you'll check all the boxes!
