August's survival guide

The Frostproof Sugar Rush.

Surviving brutal northern blizzards with total ease, August behaves like a hyperactive winter athlete who lives for extreme cold and sweet rewards. Elegant, bell-like white blossoms burst across his branches in the spring before quickly transforming into a heavy bounty of sky-blue, extra-sweet berries that taste just like pure candy. He loves to put on a theatrical performance as the seasons change, instantly swapping his bright green summer attire for a stunning jacket of fiery neon red the moment the autumn breeze rolls in. He is a highly productive, compact powerhouse who stays shorter than his giant cousin Archer, making him the perfect backyard friendly neighbor who only asks for a sunny spot and a regular splash of acidic soil to keep his berry factory pumping.

How to care for August

Plant him in a sunny location that receives at least 6 to 8 hours of direct daily light to power his sweet berry production and vibrant fall foliage. August requires acidic, well-draining soil with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5, rich in organic matter such as peat moss or aged bark. Keep his root zone consistently moist, especially during spring flowering and summer fruit development, but avoid waterlogged conditions. While he is exceptionally cold-hardy and compact, planting him near another mid-season blueberry variety will help boost harvest yields. Prune him lightly in late winter to remove dead or crowded branches and encourage vigorous new fruiting wood.
