Persimmon Early Jiro ripens in early to mid-October and is valued for its firm, squat-shaped fruit and mild, clean sweetness. Like other Jiro types, it is non-astringent and excellent for eating fresh while still crisp. The tree has a somewhat upright growth habit and benefits from annual late-winter pruning to improve airflow and light penetration. Provide full sun and moderate, consistent watering, particularly during dry summer periods. Feed lightly in early spring, as excessive nitrogen can lead to vigorous leaf growth at the expense of fruit production.
